It would be more disastrous for India’s national interest if the Congress was forced to vote for the US Resolution against Sri Lanka in Geneva.

A column published in The Pioneer said if Sri Lanka is accused of unfair use of state power against civilians and ‘armed opposition’, by the resolution so is India charged in some quarters about counter-terrorism operations in the Kashmir Valley.

The Northern civilians have staged a massive protest against the US Resolution tabled at the Human Rights Council Sessions in Geneva.

The civilians, who descended on Kilinochchi were engaged in the massive protest, condemning the action of western nations including the United States. Joining in the protest, civilians from Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu claimed that they were battered by terrorism for 30 years and that it was the present Government that created a peaceful environment for them.

Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe is due to leave the country again to attend the sessions of the 22nd United Nations Human Rights Council.

Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe told Newsfirst that the resolution against Sri Lanka will be taken in the week from  March 14.

Meanwhile,  steps have been taken by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to observe the developments of the resolution against Sri Lanka.

A strike is underway across the State of Tamil Nadu in India urging the Government of India to support to the US-sponsored resolution on Sri Lanka at the United Nations Human Rights Council.

Proceedings at India's Lower House of Parliament, the Lok Sabha were obstructed on Tuesday by protests over problems facing Sri Lankan Tamils.

Indian media reports say the Lok Sabha was adjourned until 2 p.m. Tuesday  as a result.

The protests were carried out by the members of the opposition Bharatiya Janatha Party, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam which is a constituent of the ruling party and the AIADMK.

Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic resources Rajitha Senaratne says that women bear the overall economy on their shoulders.
