| 2013-05-28 |
|
Colombo city coroner has questioned the Mawbima Kandy reporter who photographed the self immolation incident through Kandy police yesterday (24).
The coroner has asked the reporter why he did not try to prevent the monk from committing suicide by only thinking about covering the event, when he knew what is going to happen.
Coroner said that the reporter, by obliging his media duties, has deliberately made an omission of his civic duties. However, the journalist is still being questioned.

What we observe on our roads in and around Colombo today is disturbing. But yet, we should all try to understand issues and problems in comprehensive ways. We should substantiate our arguments with evidence and logical reasoning.

The self-immolation of a Buddhist monk in Kandy on Friday took a new turn with the latest police reports casting doubts as to what the monk actually attempted to do. Minutes before the incident, the monk had been heard making a statement to the effect saying his effort was not to take his life, but to sacrifice it, in a bid to end cattle-slaughter in the country.
