Counterterrorism cooperation and training between Sri Lanka and the United States in 2012 was limited, due to statutory and policy restrictions based on “concerns about alleged past human rights abuses” committed by Sri Lankan security forces, US report said.
In 2009, the Government of Sri Lanka militarily defeated the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), which was seeking an independent homeland for Sri Lanka’s Tamil population.

The writ applications that were filed by 2176 individuals on the acquisition of land in the northern province amounting to of Appeal president Justice S.Skandaraja on Thursday.
The Appeal Court issued notice on the respondents to show cause if any, through filing objections on July 10. The Jaffna District Land Acquiring Officer, the Minister of Lands and Land Development and the Land Surveyor of Jaffna have been named as the respondents in the petitions.

Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner in India, Ambassador Prasad Kariyawasam was re-elected to the UN Committee on Migrant Workers (CMW), at the election held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on 30 May, External Affairs ministry said.
The UN Committee on Migrant Workers comprises 14 experts elected for a term of four years by State Parties to the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of their Families.

He had added that the milk powder that is brought in containers should be inspected then and there. It is unreasonable to confirm that they do not contain the poisonous substance DCD once samples are given to them at a later date.
