Genuine HR concerns not addressed - D E W Gunasekara
2013-03-21
Senior Minister of Human Resources and Acting Minister of External Affairs D. E. W. Gunasekara told the Sunday Observer in an interview that the US resolution on the alleged HR issues in Sri Lanka to be moved at the UNHCR sessions in Geneva next week is apparently part of the US's "regime change" agenda and does not represent genuine HR concerns. Imperialist countries always resort to such intrigues, manoeuvres, and machinations whenever a progressive or centre left government is in power.

The Bitter Fruits Of Our Own Only
2013-03-21
As family members of a murdered ruling party politician travelled to Geneva this week to lay their case for denial of justice before the United Nations Human Rights Council, the ironies are palpable, almost painful. Are we to see in coming months, an unfairly impeached Chief Justice, persecuted Cabinet Ministers and scores of once loyal supporters of this administration following in their wake?

Good enough for some but not for others?

These are questions that demand reflectively serious answers. True enough, the hys

The Free Trade Zones and General Services Employees Union (FTZGSEU) Secretary Anton Marcus completely dismissed the claim made by the Chairman of the Apparel Exporters’ Association (AEA) Anis Sattar, that a request was to be made to the government to permit the recruitment of foreign workers to fill the 10 percent worker shortage in the sector.

Attacks on Buddhist monks and Sri Lankan visitors to Tamil Nadu must cease-Tamil Information Centre
2013-03-21
We have observed the recent attacks on Buddhist monks and other Sri Lankan visitors in Tamil Nadu with grave concern and extreme unease. These attacks are callous and disgraceful and will not help the Sri Lankan Tamils, but may cause them more harm. We offer our heartfelt sympathies to the victims.

Certainly, there is no justification for these acts from either a political perspective or, in truth, from the perspective of any other moral and freedom-loving people. These acts diminish the pride, dignity and freedom of Eelam Tam
