Breaking news -
Opposition Leader has received countless perks from the govt. - Reginald Perera

23 February 2013
Former UNP Parliamentarian Reginald Perera is doubtful whether members of the UNP Working Committee that helped Ranil Wickremesinghe secure the position of Opposition Leader, also receive the assistance of the government.

He pointed out that the current government has allocated a large sum of money to the opposition leader's office through the budget than ever before.

".. This Opposition Leader has received countless perks and privileges from the government which no other opposition leader has received. None of the previous opposition leaders were given such large amounts of funds. But I believe that a large some of money is not allocated for the opposition leader alone. I believe the government is using this money to maintain the Working Committee as well. There are many burning issues in the country, but what has the Opposition Leader done? He, nor has the members, of the Working Committee have spoken about the issues.

People like John Amaratunge, Joseph Micheal Perera, Jayalath Jayawardene, Gamini Jayawickrama Perera and Daya Gamage hold positions within the party. All of them are members of the Working Committee. However, none of them point out the flaws of the government. Upul jayasuiya's victory yesterday is an eye opener. He received 1471 votes to Tirantha Walaliadda's 330 votes. Are there only 330 SLFP lawyers in the country ? No there are more, but they have accepted the fact that they disagree with certain things that have happened to the judiciary including what happened to the former chief justice. But the Opposition Leader needs none of this. He says you don't need posts to work".

Furthermore, I need to openly tell Sajith Premadasa that there is no value in the positions handed out by this leader. You do not need these positions. Please continue your work, to my other party members and political leader, I am saying there is no point in obtaining positions from Ranil Wickremesinghe. Even if he offers me a post of organiser, I will not accept it ..,' stated Former UNP Parliamentarian Reginald Perera.
