President pardons Batticaloa girl

2015 Apr 03

President Maithripala Sirisena has pardoned a girl from Batticaloa who had written on the mirror wall at Sigiriya, the Government information department said.

Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapaksa said that the President had signed the documents to pardon the girl who was arrested and later sentenced to jail over the incident.

The 23-year-old girl, Sinnathambi Udeni, had pleaded guilty to writing her name on the mirror wall and was sentenced to two years in jail.

She was arrested in February after she was seen by security guards at Sigiriya. The parents of the girl later made an appeal to the President for clemency. (Colombo Gazette)
