Matara Mobile clinic to facilitate identification clinics successful

2015 Feb 17

Center for Human Rights and Research (CHR) successfully concluded its mobile clinics to facilitate identification documents at Kotapola and Pitabeddara DS offices, in Matara District, on February 14 and 15. Over 748 persons, mostly from the most marginalized sections who would have found it impossible to obtain these documents through the normal process, were facilitated in the two days.

However CHR believes that there are still a significant number of eligible voters in Matara without identification documents and that they need to be assisted so that they can vote in the coming general election.

These mobile clinics were jointly organized by Department for registration of Persons (DRP), CHR and Campaign for Free and Fair Elections (CaFFE). All the services of the clinics will be held free of charge.

CHR and CaFFE have held a number of clinics across the country and over 100 000 persons have been facilitated.
