JVP North Central Provincial Council Member Vasantha Samarasinghe, who lodged a complaint with the Commission to Investigate Bribery or Corruption against former Monitoring MP for External Affairs Ministry, Sajin de Vass Gunawardena on his undeclared wealth and how they have been acquired within a short period, accused the Bribery Commission for its delay in holding an investigation for the past two weeks.

Samarasinghe accused Sajin Vass of being involved in fraud, unpaid loans and unfulfilled promises during the former regime and queried how he accumulated large assets after working as a Wharf Clerk in one of the largest freight forwarding companies, Trico International in Dubai, assisting VIPs with their baggage formalities.

Sajin Vass was also accused of not refunding money to students for his failure to give the promised training to obtain Private Pilot License (PPL) at his Cosmos Aviation School, Ratmalana.

“According to the agreement, if the aviation school fails to provide the training during the stipulated time, the entire course fee could be refunded if there is any request. For my son, they failed to give the flying training as promised and when I wanted them to refund the course fee, they refused to do so,” a parent said.

However, refuting allegations, Vass Gunawardena said that he was not bound to refund the money as this student wanted the money back after undergoing training for 1 ½ – 2 months.

He also refuted the allegations levelled against him on deals when leasing out aircraft, and said that he never interfered in any leasing process and added he was able to get the lowest rates during his tenure at Mihin Lanka as its CEO.

“If you compare the leasing cost during my time and after I left Mihin Lanka, you will know the price difference. In regard to the payment made to the crew members when the aircraft was not flying, it is the airline that has to bear the cost but not the aircraft owning company. I have not abused my position to gain any undue benefits,” Sajin Vass said.
