Refugees free to remember dead

2014 Dec 01

The Tamil Nadu police have given permission to Sri Lankan refugees to conduct a religious ceremony to remember the victims of the war, The Hindu newspaper reported.

The Sri Lankans are to conduct the “kudamuzhukku” (kumbabishekam) atthe Sri Sakthi Vinayagar temple at the Sri Lankan refugee camp at Thoppukollai near Pudukottai tomorrow.

Earlier it was planned to conduct the Kudamuzhukku on November 27. However the police did not give permission as November 27 was observed as “Maaveera dhinam” (Heroes day).

On November 26, police arrested 84 persons when they staged an agitation in the camp. As the police have given permission to conduct the Kudamuzhukku, yagasala pujas started again in the temple. Vallathirakottai police have made tight security arrangements. Q branch police and Revenue Department officials were monitoring the situation. (Colombo Gazette)
