Over 140 oral statements recorded in Kili

The Missing Persons Commission, which conducted fresh round of sittings in the Kilinochchi District over a four day period ending yesterday, recorded oral statements from 149 people.

Commission spokesman H. W. Gunadasa said that apart from the 149 oral statements recorded during the sittings, written statements were also accepted from some people.

He said that in total the Missing Persons Commission had received 263 complaints related to people reported missing in the Kilinochchi District.

The sittings in the Kilinochchi District were conducted from Saturday September 27 to Tuesday September 30, Gunadasa said adding that inquiries will now be conducted into the complaints received.

He also said that preparations will be made to conduct the next hearing in another district but the location is yet to be decided on.

Public sittings were earlier held in the Kilinochchi District from 18th January to 21st January this year.  So far the Commission has received over 14,471 complaints from families of civilians reported missing and 5,000 complaints on security forces members reported missing. (Colombo Gazette)
