I was attacked by minister's goons

The journalist Chandana Kuruppuarachchi, who was injured when he was attacked by thugs at Hali-ele area in Badulla the day after the Uva PC election and is being treated in a private hospital at Pannipitiya, says he was attacked by a group of thugs on instructions from a minister.

After videoing the clash between supporters of UPFA and the UNP at Hali-ela he was returning home in a three wheeler when a gang of thugs pursued him, assaulted him and attempted to grab his camera. In the struggle a part of the camera was broken and the thugs took it away said Mr. Kuruppuarachchi. The gang of thugs were instructed by a minister of the UPFA government says Mr. Kuruppuarachchi adding the value of the camera the thugs destroyed is about Rs.150,000.

Hospital sources say Mr. Kuruppuarachchi was brought from Badulla Hospital, there are serious damage to bones and tissues on his face and he would be subjected to surgery.

The sources further said the injuries incurred due to the beating are serious and he would be subjected to another surgery in a private hospital in Colombo tomorrow (25th). Onlookers say the minister involved in the assault was Dilan Perera.
