Military claims another attempt to betray intelligence units

2014 Jun 24

Sri Lanka’s Military today said that it has received information regarding attempts by certain political elements to destabilize the country’s intelligence unit by divulging information.

It has been revealed by reliable sources that a certain group is preparing for a betrayal similar to the ‘Millennium City’ betrayal prior to the peace agreement, which resulted in the death of several intelligence unit officers by LTTE cadres, military spokesman Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasuriya said.

He stated that according to the information they have received, the politicians in question are preparing to deliver a special statement regarding the matter in Parliament very soon, hiding behind their parliamentary privileges.

The politicians are preparing to reveal certain information regarding the country’s intelligence units in parliament, based on the events which unfolded recently in Aluthgma and Beruwala, he told reporters in Colombo.

When asked as to who will be delivering the said statement in Parliament, Wanigasuriya stated that there are “patriots even among traitors” and it was them who informed of this attempt. He said the names of the individuals involved will be known to the public very soon.

He said that making such statements in parliament will only create an incorrect opinion of Sri Lanka among the international community.
