EU won't call for review of 20-year UN confidentiality clause

The European Union says that they have seen no reason to call for an immediate review of UN confidentiality clause with regard  to sources/eyewitnesses to facilitate a war crimes investigation undertaken by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.


"The European Union encourages the Government of Sri Lanka to cooperate with and to consider technical support from the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the international community. The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights will determine the details of its investigation." A senior European Union spokesperson said.


The official was responding to The Island query whether the EU would request UNSG’s Panel of Experts’ (PoE)/UN to review their position on the controversial recommendation pertaining to confidentiality of sources/eyewitness now that the Office of the United.
