US embassy in Colombo ensues its security

2014 Mar 24

The United States Embassy in Colombo said it has taken necessary measures to ensure the security of its premises with more anti-US protests expected this week ahead of the resolution on Sri Lanka being taken for a vote at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.

If the Embassy has requested for special security this week, the Press and Information Officer at the Embassy Juliana Spavan said that the Embassy has taken appropriate measures for security and it also appreciates the cooperation of the police to ensure that security.

Asked if the Embassy has sought the assistance of the police for security this week, the spokeswoman said that it is normal procedure to seek the assistance of the police. At least three protests took place outside the US Embassy in Colombo last week opposing the US led resolution in Sri Lanka.
