The Mahanayakes of the Asgiri and Malwatte Chapters are to have a special discussion, on the impact of the UNHRC resolution against the country, with External Affairs Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris and Plantation Industries Minister, Mahinda Samarasinghe at the Dalada Maligawa tomorrow.

Secretary of the Asgiri Viharaya, Ven. Anamaduwe Dammadassa Thera said the Mahanayakes requested President Mahinda Rajapaksa to make them aware about the impact of the resolution which is to be moved against Sri Lanka at the UNHRC.

In a letter to the President the Mahanayake of the Malwatte Chapter, Most Ven. Tibbotuwawe Sri Sumangala Thera and Mahanayake of the Asgiriya Chapter, Most Ven. Udugama Sri Buddharakkhita Thera had requested a discussion with Minister Peiris and Minister Samarasinghe.

"The Mahanayake Theras need to be aware of the impact of the UNHRC resolution. If there is a real threat to the country, the Maha Sangha should be aware of that. Then only can the Mahanayakes make a clear statement about it. Statements published in the media are contradictory, hence we cannot rely on them," the Thera said.
Throughout history, the Mahanayaka Theras of these two Chapters have been advising the political administration when the country faces any issue, he added.

Meanwhile, Asgiriya Chapter Committee Member, Ven. Medagama Dammananda Thera said, the President had immediately responded to the letter sent by the Mahanayake.

"We sent this letter to the President through the Diyawadana Nilame. Although the President did not send us a written reply, he had discussed with the Diyawadana Nilame, over the phone and assured him that Minister Peiris and Minister Samarasinghe will be coming to Kandy for the discussion," the Thera added.
