TNA delegation heads to Geneva

2014 Mar 24

Tamil National Alliance (TNA) delegation has departed for Geneva to hold last minute discussions with members of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC).

The Uthayan newspaper reported that TNA MPs Mavia Senathirajah, M.A. Sumanthiran and Suresh Premachandran are among those who had left for Geneva over the weekend.

The TNA delegation is to seek wider support for the US sponsored resolution on Sri Lanka which will be debated and taken for a vote this week.

TNA MP M.A Sumanthiran, who had returned from Geneva last week after having talks with diplomats and attending side events on Sri Lanka, had said that the resolution is expected to have at least one change before it is submitted to the Council.

Sumanthiran, who has now departed for Geneva again, according to the Uthayan report, had said last week that the final text of the resolution will be strong and includes calls for an international investigation in Sri Lanka.
