No counter resolution at UNHRC

The Government says it will not join friendly countries to present a counter resolution in Geneva in support of Sri Lanka.

External Affairs Minister, Professor G.L Peiris said this at a meting between President Mahinda Rajapaksa and foreign correspondents based in Colombo today.

The President meanwhile told the Colombo based foreign correspondents that there seems to be hidden factors behind the US move to submit a resolution on Sri Lanka at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva next month.

He said if there is any evidence to prove the allegations against the Government, that evidence must be submitted and then the Government will look into it.

The President however said Sri Lanka’s relations with the US remained strong despite moves underway in Geneva.

This was echoed by Minister Peiris, who said that both Sri Lanka and the US have several projects which they collaborate on.
