Ananthi undecided on Geneva

2014 Jan 29

Northern Provincial Council (NPC) member Ananthi Sasitharan says she has not decided if she will travel to Geneva for the UN Human Rights Council sessions in March.

Speaking to the Colombo Gazette, Sasitharan said that she had presented a proposal to the NPC on Monday calling for an NPC delegation to head to Geneva during the March sessions.

The NPC had later proposed that she travel to Geneva but Sasitharan says she did not expect to be nominated and will need time to decide.

She said she wanted an NPC delegation in Geneva to speak on behalf on the Tamils and raise concerns over the people still reported missing.

Sasitharan, the wife of former LTTE Trincomalee District political head S. Elilan, said that she continues to face intimidation with unidentified men following her and roaming near her house.

She said that with her life under threat she needs to give careful consideration before deciding on attending the Geneva sessions.
