Government Medical Officers‘ Association (GMOA) President Dr. Anuruddha Padeniya yesterday said that 86 percent of the Doctors’ Annual Transfer Scheme had been satisfactorily implemented with the assistance of the online service for the first time in Sri Lanka.

He said that the Annual Transfer Scheme had previously been done through paper work costing approximately Rs. 10 million. But the online transfer scheme had cost only Rs. 100,000. It was a remarkable achievement. The government had been able to save a great deal of money, Dr. Padeniya said.

Previous Annual Transfer Scheme had been a mess, theˆGMOA said. It was characterised by inordinate delays.

But for the first time the transfer list of all doctors was ready before January 2014 giving them time to make arrangements for moving out.

Dr. Padeniya said: "The Annual Transfer Scheme of the doctors has been streamlined due to direct involvement of Health Secretary Dr. Nihal Jayathilaka and DDG Dr. Ananda Gunasakera. GMOA will assure that the balance 14 per cent would be properly implemented in a matter of weeks."
