Army chief wants discipline

Army Commander Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake today urged his troops to maintain the highest levels of discipline among all ranks, safeguarding the reputation of the organization at all times.

Speaking at the army headquarters today during the New Year celebrations, the Army Commander said that the dedication and commitment of the soldiers had already borne fruit and received praise from the President and the Secretary of Defence.

He said that a restructuring process is now underway in the organization following the end of the war and that measures have been taken in the past four years for the best interests of all ranks by way of a number of welfare projects.

He also made some salutary remarks on the roles played by soldiers in the past by way of laying their precious lives, sacrifice of legs and limbs and fearless commitment to the service.

Meanwhile, at a separate event at the Ministry of Defence today, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development Gotabaya Rajapaksa told his staff that they must strive with commitment for the Socio-Economic development of the country while ensuring national unity in order to create a better tomorrow for the future generation.

Further speaking Rajapaksa praised the untiring efforts of all institutions towards achieving the development goals. “We accomplished a number of development projects during the previous year and at the dawn of the New Year we now determine to work continuously toward the plans ahead in keeping with the Mahinda Chinthana manifesto”, he said.
