Mangala's case against MTV/MBC dismissed

2013 Dec 12

Mangala Samaraweera’s personal case filed against MTV/MBC dismissed by the Matara additional judge, the Ada Derana reporter confirmed.

On December  5 the Matara Magistrate Court stated that the Chairman of Capital Maharaja is not required to be present at court on December 11 while the Court is to decide on that date whether or not notice should be issued on him.

On November 25, notice was issued on the Chairman of MTV/MBC R. Rajamahendran to appear before the Matara Magistrate District Court on December 11.

The Court issued notice on Rajamahendran, to show cause on why he should not be bound to the alleged hatred media campaign done against the United National Party.

This was issued when a petition filed by MP Mangala Samaraweera was taken up at the Matara Magistrate District Court.

The petition accuses the defendant of inciting the party members through its media coverage of a recent clash which had taken place in the Matara Town.

Presenting facts to the court, attorneys representing the UNP Parliamentarian had stated that Mr R. Rajamahendran had acted in an amicable manner with the United National Party until the last General Election.

The petition states that Rajamahendran had made a request to UNP leader Ranil Wickramasinghe to provide two National List parliamentary seats from the party to two representatives named by former.

However, when Wickramasinghe had rejected the request he had resorted to engaging in a hatred media campaign against the UNP
