JVP wants case shifted to Kandy

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) is planning to file an application in the Court of Appeal, requesting the transfer of the Matale mass grave case to Kandy.

JVP Counsel for the Aggrieved, Sunil Wattegala, said the application is being drafted and will be ready within two weeks.
"Matale Magistrate, Sampath Gamage, had treated the case very lightly when it was taken up at the Court last November," he alleged.
It is learnt the judge had not granted leave for the Counsel to argue the case, let alone heed their demand that the bones not be sent to China for radio carbon testing.

It is learnt the judge had referred to the case as 'some insignificant bones' and had postponed the next date of hearing to 20 May 2014. Wattegala said that no judge postpones a case of such importance for over six months.
"We are filing the application to transfer the case to Kandy," he said.

JVP's former Provincial Council Member, Gamagedera Dissanayake, said the families and the relatives of the people who have filed affidavits are waiting for a favourable decision from the Courts.
