Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka asks Colombo MC to find alternative accommodation for Pettah fishmongers

Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka has directed the city government of Colombo, the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC), to find alternative accommodation for fishmongers from Pettah.

The Human Rights Commission has asked the CMC Commissioner Bhadrani Jayawardana to find alternative accommodation for 68 fishmongers who were evicted from the St. John's fish market in Pettah.

The CMC Commissioner has been asked to find alternative locations for the fishermen and report to the Human Rights Commission today (26).

The CMC Commissioner has on the 16th of the month had turned down a proposal by the Human Rights Commission to provide alternative spaces for the fishmongers in the Dematagoda abattoir.

The Human Rights Commission has however directed that a notice be issued on the Municipal Commissioner stating that she is required to be present in person today to respond to the Commission's request.
