2013 Nov 26

What were the chief ministers and educations ministers doing?.. There are always problems regarding questions papers in the Western Province.

The Ceylon Teachers Union charge that the answer paper was also attached to the Tamil Medium Grade 9 history paper in the Western Province.

It’s General Secretary, Joseph Stalin said that due to this reason the paper was collected from the students and as a result the students did not receive any paper.

He further stated,

“In the paper in question after four questions there are answers. After the answers there are few more questions. Even half an hour before the paper was handed over to the students, the provincial education office informs all Tamil medium schools via telephone to collect the paper from the students and to seal it. They want the schools to make sure that the paper is not leaked and is sent back to the education department. What are they trying to hide? Shouldn’t they have checked this before printing the wrong paper. Ultimately the students had no paper at all yesterday, what were the chief ministers and educations ministers doing while all this was happening in the western province? There are always problems regarding questions papers in the Western Province, when will theses be resolved? We demand for an immediate action in this regard.”

When Newsfirst contacted the Secretary to the Department of Education of the Western province, S.T. Kodikara, he said that he has been informed of the incident and necessary steps would be taken regarding the matter. He said:

The responsibility falls on the provincial education director and the officials.

The Secretary further added: “Due to the unpleasant experiences with the last term test papers we decided to print papers through the provincial education officer in order to minimise printing mistakes and distribute at school levels. I have given the necessary instructions to the officers concerned. However, I have been informed that printing mistakes have taken place once again. I have informed the provincial education director to submit me with a report. It is evident that officials have acted irresponsibly even when strict instructions have been given. I hope to take disciplinary action against those officers who are responsible.”
