Implementing LLRC report has responded to allegations leveled against Sri Lanka by Western nations - Minister

2013 Nov 21

A Sri Lankan government minister says that the allegations leveled against the government by the Western nations have been answered through the implementation of the recommendations in the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) report.

Government Spokesperson and Media Minister, Keheliya Rambukwella told media that the government has implemented all the LLRC recommendations that were to be implemented in the short term.

He said the government has implemented most of the medium term recommendations as well but there is a delay in implementing some of the long term recommendations since it would require some constitutional amendments.

Sri Lanka has set up a national plan of action to implement the recommendations of the LLRC and under the plan a timeframe ranging from 6 months 3 years has been given to fulfill each recommendation.

As for the recent statement made by the British Premier setting a deadline by March 2014 for the government to conduct a transparent, credible and independent inquiry into war crime allegations, Rambukwella said other countries should not tamper with a sovereign nation.
