CWC takes up plantation workers' woes with govt.

The Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) had commenced discussions with the government seeking to recover over Rs. 1,000 million, in EPF, ETF and retirement gratuity, due to 15,000 or more employees of the estates coming under the Janatha Estates Development Board (JEDB) and State Plantations Corporation (SPC), CWC leader and Deputy Minister Mutthu Sivalingam said yesterday.

This follows a Supreme Court ruling that the Hantane Estate pay all outstanding EPF, ETF and gratuity to all plantation employees within the next two weeks.

He said that the General Secretary of the CWC, Minister Arumugam Thondaman had been involved in the discussions with the JEDB, SPC and the Treasury to recover the monies due to the plantation workers.
