Dharmapala MV Kottawa Principal assaulted

The Principal of Kottawa Dharmapala Maha Vidyalaya, Y Yasaratna was assaulted by four unidentified persons who stormed into the school premises at around12 noon yesterday, when the rear gate of the school was opened for primary students to leave after school hours.

When the Daily News contacted the school's general phone number at around 3 pm yesterday, a person who said that he is from the school, but did not give his name, said four persons stormed into the school from the rear gate and attacked the Principal.

On being asked the reason for the attack, he said ," Don't you know that our principal is going to leave the school and assume duties as the Principal of Asoka Vidyalaya." and banged the phone.

When we (Daily News) contacted the school over the same telephone number requesting for the Principal's telephone number, the same person answered in a rude manner again and banged the phone, stating ,"if you want information regarding the incident, you better come to the school."

According to reports received by us, a group had entered the school and assaulted the principal, two vice principals and several other teachers. A tense situation was reported in the area following the incident.

Meanwhile, responding to the Daily News, a spokesman for the Police Media Unit said that a special police team had been deployed to the school to curb the tense situation and restore normalcy.

Three persons had also been arrested in connection with alleged attack, he said.
