Exam results on World Children's Day - SLHRC to continue inquiries

Education authorities and the relevant officers of institutions are due to meet with the Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission today, to discuss matters pertaining to the issue that arose with releasing of Grade Five Scholarship Examination results on World Children's Day.

Legal Secretary of the Commission, Attorney-at-law, Nimal Punchihewa stated that this step was taken after considering the complaints they received. He further added,

“Due to the releasing of scholarship results on World Childen's Day many children have been severely affected mentally and has impacted their social life. The SLHRC has taken a decision to look on this matter. Therefore, the commission has called on 35 officials related to education ministries, child protection authorities and relevant institution dealing with affairs of children for a meeting with the Human Rights Commission. The commission hopes that through this problems relating to the children will be discussed and secondly to discuss the impact on releasing results on such days and to present recommendation to the government in this regard.”
