BASL expresses grave concern over abduction of Judge's son

2013 Oct 08

The Bar Association of Sri Lanka [BASL] yesterday expressed grave concern over the recent incident where the teenage son of an Additional District Judge of Colombo was abducted.

The BASL, in a statement, said "Fortunately, the young boy, who is a student preparing for his Ordinary Level Examination, was released by his abductors after some time. However, the incident would have traumatized him and caused immense worry to his family and friends.

"It is learnt that, this abduction appears to have been carried out in an attempt to dissuade the boy’s father from proceeding with a complaint made by him to the Police regarding the recovery of monies paid on a contract to construct his house.

"The BASL strongly emphasises that the security and safety of all judges and their immediate families is of paramount concern and that, any failure to ensure this will result in the total breakdown of the administration of justice.

"The BASL calls upon the Inspector General of Police to take immediate and effective action to apprehend the wrongdoers and bring them to justice."
