Father burns son with iron rod

A 38-year-old man, who was arrested for allegedly burning his 10-year-old son with an iron rod, was remanded by the Hatton Magistrate’s Court.


Acting Magistrate, Damayanthi Fernando, remanded the suspect, V.A. Kamalanath, until 8 October.

The child has been subjected to the ordeal, as he had obtained low marks at the recently concluded..... Grade 5 Scholarship examination. The suspect had used a heated iron rod to burn the left and right cheeks of his son.


The victim who is a student of a school in Bogawantalawa, was hospitalized at the Bogawantalawa Base Hospital, and is being treated for the burns he had sustained.


Police sources said the father had meted out this form of harsh punishment as the boy had obtained 92 marks at the exam.


The suspect was arrested by the police on Saturday (5), following a complaint lodged by a resident of the area.
