Sanjeewa banished from universities

2013 Oct 01

Colombo Fort Chief Magistrate Mr. Thilina Gamage today (01) rejected the request made by Counsel Namal Rajapaksa to remove the Court order which prohibits Sanjeewa Bandara - convener of the Inter University Students' Federation (IUSF) from entering any university premises inside Sri Lanka.

Colombo Crime Division (CCD) had informed Courts that Sanjeewa Bandara has held a protest in Colombo Fort area, causing public nuisance.

Rejecting the request of Counsel Rajapaksa who pointed out that he must be given permission to enter into universities as he a member of the IUSF, Fort Magistrate ruled that he could only visit the universities upon the invitation of the university administration.

The Magistrate further stated that as it was informed to court that Mr. Bandara was not an internal student of any university, such a request cannot be granted.

The charge sheet will be read on Jan. 21.
