He said UNHRC Commissioner Navaneetham Pillay’s visit to Sri Lanka is a pre-arranged one. The Commissioner visits the country in response to an invitation extended to her by the government in April 2011.

“Her program had been prepared formally in agreement with the government,” MP Gunawardena said.

UN Human Rights High Commissioner Pillay has the freedom to visit any part of the country. She can meet any members of the public or any civil organizations during her visit.

“Whomever she wants to meet, wherever she may want to go is up to her. We will be supporting her visit,” said MP Vaas Gunawardena.

MP Gunawardena said in response to a question raised by a journalist whether she will meet members of civil organizations in the North,“ She will be meeting state officials . She will also visit the Northern Province and may as well meet members of civil organizations there. She is welcome to do so.” “There will be no restrictions,” he said.
