HRC postpones media meet

2013 Aug 15

The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) has postponed a scheduled meeting with some media representatives today saying there were some “developments” in Weliweriya.

The Free Media Movement (FMM) was among those called for the meeting with the HRCSL this morning.

According to the FMM, the meeting had been postponed after they were told by the HRCSL that they had to seek an urgent meeting with the army.

The FMM had been told by the HRCSL that there were some concerns over the army recording statements from civilians in Weliweriya over the recent clashes and so had to meet the army to discuss those concerns.

The FMM had told the HRCSL that they had no issues with the meeting being postponed but wanted the meeting to take place as soon as possible.

Media institutions were to discuss the attacks on journalists covering the Weliweriya incident recently. (Colombo Gazette)
