Police Say No Threat To Jayakody

2013 Aug 12

By Indika Sri Aravinda

The Police claim that former Police Spokesman Priyashantha Jayakody is not under serious threat to the extent that he would need to seek asylum overseas.

Police Spokesman SP Buddhika Siriwardena said that Jayakody had only once complained of receiving a threatening telephone call over a case he was pursuing but nothing after that.

Jayakody was deemed to have vacated his post in the Police as he failed to report to work after he went to Australia.

While there has not been any statement from Jayakody since, it was understood that he was staying with his son in Australia.

Jayakody was the SSP in-charge of the Ratnapura police division and often stood in as the acting Police Spokesman in the absence of the current spokesman.

Earlier this year Jayakody claimed that he had received death threats after he ordered a raid on a club allegedly operating with political backing in Ratnapura.
