Education trade unions complain to HRC on the shooting of students

The Ceylon Teachers' Union (CTU) and the Independent Educational Employees Union (IEEU) have lodged a complaint with the HRC against the killing of two school students by the Army in Weliweriya during an attack on civilians who were protesting demanding clean drinking water.

General Secretary of the CTU, Joseph Stalin said that both unions had written and handed in their letters to the Commission.

He said the unions have condemned the attack by the army that has killed two students and injured several others. Four other students were reportedly injured due to the attack, he added.
