2013 Aug 01

The third batch of soldiers, including two officers and 39 others representing different ranks, who followed a Tamil language course organized by the 55 Division of the Vettilaikerny Headquarters, successfully completed the programme last week.

The Tamil language programme for soldiers serving in Jaffna was initiated with a view to enhance their knowledge of the language, which would help them in their endeavours to establish and develop close relationships with the general public in the Peninsula.

At a ceremony held on 24 July, certificates were distributed to soldiers who had successfully completed the course. To date, around 100 soldiers attached to the 55 Division in Jaffna have successfully completed the Tamil language programme, the Army's Media Unit in Jaffna, said.

The third batch also staged a concert with the dialogue in Tamil, which was part of the award ceremony, to highlight their recently acquired skills in the Tamil language.

General Officer Commanding the 55th Division, Brig. Ajith Wijesinghe, Commander of the 552 Brigade, Col. Deepal Wanniarachchi, and several army officers attended the ceremony.
