2013 Jul 23

The female Sri Lankan teacher who was made to kneel down in front of her classroom by a ruling party politician has received death threats.
Joseph Stalin Fernando, the general secretary of Ceylon Teachers' Union said the grieved teacher Susila Herath who was subjected to the humiliation by the North Western Provincial Councilor Ananda Sarath Kumara has lodged a complaint in police regarding threats to her life.

The teacher has complained to the Anamaduwa police station that several statements made by the resigned Provincial Councilor were threatening to her life.

The ruling United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) Provincial Councilor resigned from the post after he was remanded for the incident making the lady teacher kneel down for punishing the politician's daughter on disciplinary grounds.

However, Sarath Kumara has applied for the candidature of the ruling alliance at the upcoming election for the Provincial Council.

Ceylon Teacher' Union says that the teacher's life will be under further threat in case the politician is granted nomination.

The union also rejected the Provincial Councilor's statement that the teacher would address the opposition United National Party political rallies if he was granted the nominations.
