Launch of jumbo report further delayed

2013 Jul 23

By Ifham Nizam The launch of the reprint of the report on the first countrywide survey on elephants, conducted in 2011, will be further delayed, according to senior officials of the Department of Wildlife Conservation.

The first print of the report was destroyed due to some shortcomings and infighting in the department, according to sources.

Last December, the department gave the green light for printing 500 books at a cost of Rs. 500,000.

The then Director Operations and Director, DWLC, H. R. Ratnayake, who is the present Director General, said the report had been delayed due to the absence of a key conservationist. He said the key author, Prof. Charles Santhiapillai, was out of the country.
