British Parliamentary team due in Colombo for fact-finding mission

A team of British Parliamentarians are scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka tomorrow on a fact-finding mission.

Eleanor Laing MP (Conservative Party), Simon Danczuk MP (Labour Party), Kerry McCarthy MP (Labour Party), Lord Sheikh and Baroness Hayter of Kentish Town will be in Colombo from July 22 – 26 for this mission under a comprehensive agenda.

They are expected to meeting with President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa, Foreign Minister G. L. Peiris, Opposition Leader Ranil Wickeremesinghe and some other key opposition party leaders.

During this tour, Rochdale MP Simon Danczuk is billed to discuss with the authorities in Sri Lanka the progress of the court case on his constituent Khuram Shaikh, who was killed in Tangalle.The brutal murder of this British national on Christmas Day of 2011, where a prominent government politician was allegedly involved, hit the headlines

The visit of the fact-finding mission was organized by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association and hosted by the British High Commission in Colombo.
