SLFP to get tough

2013 Jul 19

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) is to get tough on its members who have come forward to contest the provincial council elections despite having a bad track record behind them.

SLFP General Secretary Maithripala Sirisena said that the party central committee will meet today (Friday) to decide on the future of some members.

He said that among them are SLFP members who have been accused of being involved in criminal or violent incidents.

Sirisena said that the decision to be taken today on such members will have a long term impact on their future.

Former North Western Provincial Council member Ananda Sarath Kumara, who forced a school teacher to kneel for taking disciplinary action against his daughter, is among those who submitted applications to contest the elections. (Colombo Gazette)
