Education authorities of the North Central Province yesterday visited the Government Press in Colombo to find out how the answers too were printed on the Sinhala language and literature question paper of the term ending test on Tuesday.

North Central Province Education Ministry Secretary R. K. Premasiri told The Island that he along with the Provincial Education Minister Peshala Jayaratne, the provincial education director and other officials went to the Government Press, but they had refused to take the responsibility for the mistake.

"We discussed it with the head of the press and found that they were not willing to accept any responsibility for the mistake," he said adding they had now decided to launch an investigation into the incident.

The Grade Six Sinhala Language and Literature term test paper, for schools in the Polonnaruwa and Anuradhapura Districts, was cancelled on Tuesday as it contained answers as well.

Answers to six questions in the Sinhala Language and Literature second paper, were mistakenly printed on the fourth page.

The biggest poser was why those who prepared the test paper sent some of the answers to the printer along with the questions.

Premasiri said that they would request the Chief Secretary of the Province to launch an investigation into the incident through the Provincial Internal Auditor’s Department.

"We will hold the fresh paper on July 28 as the second vacation of this year will start on August 02," the Secretary said.

Chief Secretary of the North Central Province H. M. R. B. Herath said that they could start an investigation immediately if the Provincial Education Ministry requested it.
