2013 Jul 11

Minister of Education Bandula Gunawardena states that Sri Lanka is yet to reach the development achieved by Japan through education.

The Minister made this observation at a ceremony to present airline tickets to students participating in the Asia Pacific Children's Convention.

Seven students who will be participating in the 25th Asia Pacific Childrens' Convention in Japan were presented airline tickets at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Education.

Minister of Education, Bandula Gunawardena shared this view

"When Sri Lanka received independence in 1948, the increase in per capital income of Sri Lanka and Japan stood at two dollars. However, Japan has surpassed us to become one of the largest industrial and economic powers in the world with a rapid development rate. They changed the education system to achieve this status. We are still trying to teach our children to love others, to love the environment and
to work hard."
