2013 Jul 10

Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya today (09) ordered the former DIG Vaas Gunawaradana, who was remanded in suspicion of the murder of businessman Mohamed Shiyam from Bambalapitiya, to be remanded until July 19th.

ASP Shani Abeysekara of CID informed the court that the Gunawaradana’s son Ravindu Gunawardana is a suspect to the incident, however the police could not locate him.

The CID further informed the court that the police visited the house of the former DIG three times to arrest his son and former DIG’s wife objected and disturbed the investigations.

The counsel appearing on behalf of the accused stated that if the court issued an order to their client’s son they will take due measures tomorrow (10). They further informed the court that the CID visited the house not to arrest the son but for other matters.

Meanwhile, according to the State Analysts’ report it has been proved that the blood found inside the jeep is human blood. Abeysekara further stated that blood would be subjected to a DNA report in order to confirm if it’s the blood of Shiyam.
