Nominations for NWC Councillor who made teacher kneel!

2013 Jul 08

Making an about-face from an earlier decision to banish from the Party, former North-Western Provincial (NWP) Councillor, Ananda Sarath Kumara, who created a nationwide scandal after he allegedly forced a female school teacher of Navagaththegama Navodya Vidyalaya to kneel before him, the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) has now decided to issue nominations to the errant provincial politico, to contest in the forthcoming NWP election.

The SLFP earlier banned him from the Party and forced him to resign from the Provincial Council.
However, Party sources said the former Councillor requested the nomination from the SLFP leadership, which has been acceded to.

Despite news reports claiming that Sarath Kumara resigned following President Mahinda Rajapaksa demanding it, he said he resigned on his own accord, to set an example to the country.
Sarath Kumara was remanded and was later released on bail by the Puttalama Magistrate.
