2013 Jul 07

The complaint made by the Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa against a certain tele-communication company indicating that his phone has been tapped in order to obtain state secrets, is an attempt to mislead the public, reports ‘Lanka‘ newspaper.

According to their report, the reason for the complaint made by the Defence Secretary is former National Security Agency (NSA) contractor Edward Snowden revealing the world that NSA has developed a cernuous that can capture anything.

The political critics find it hilarious that Defence Secretary making a complaint about his tapped phone when the Defence Ministry possesses equipment to tap the phones of government ministers and high tech equipment has been imported.

If certain embassy possesses communication equipment to tap phones against the Defence Ministry, what the Defence Secretary should do is to instruct the state intelligence services to probe the situation and arrest the equipment and the culprits after searching the embassies.

Without doing that, the Defence Secretary has filed a complaint against the particular tele-communication company, which proves that it is nothing but an attempt to mislead the public, the critics added.

However, ‘Divaina’ newspaper has reported today (06), Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa stated that each time he makes a call the signals are low as well as the quality of the conversation.

He has further stated that certain embassies and high commissions are able to listen to other’s telephone conversations and he highly suspects that someone is listening to his telephone conversations.
