Private Bus Owners' Association warns of trade union action

2013 Jul 06

The Ceylon Private Bus Owners Association says that they will resort to trade union action if steps are not taken to revise bus fares according to the 2011 Committee Report.

Chairman of the Association Gemunu Wijerathne said that this decision was unanimously approved by its committee which convened on Wednesday.
Gemunu Wijerathne said;
'We held a discussion in this regard with the subject minister on the 27th last month. Following the discussion we came to an agreement to obtain the recommendations of the Finance Ministry. However, the National Transport Commission had given us a notice that through these recommendations they would revise the bus fares. So therefore the directors and district organisers of our committee took a collective decision yesterday that we receive a bus revision by the coming week according to the recommendations of the 2011 committee report of the finance ministry. if not we will resort to trade union action next week.'
The Chairman of the National Transport Commission Roshan Gunawardena however noted that a decision has not been taken as yet in this regard.
