Colombo Additional Magistrate, Mohammad Shahabuddeen, severely reprimanded the wife of the former DIG, Vass Gunawardena, warning her not to interfere with or threaten witnesses, of the case of the murdered businessman Mohammed Shiyam.

She was ordered to personally appear before the Court for allegedly threatening a witness in the murder trial. The wife of the former DIG, Shyamali P. Perera, was released after being reprimanded by the Magistrate, when the case was taken up at the Colombo Magistrate's Court yesterday (4), following a motion filed by her Counsel, Ajith Pathirana.

She was issued notice to personally appear in the Court on 9 July. However, it had been stated in the motion that she would not be able to attend the hearing on that day.

The notice was issued on 4 June when ASP Shani Abeysekera of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), informed the Court that Shyamali P. Perera had threatened a witness in the case pertaining to the murder of Shiyam.

The case will be heard again on 9 July.
