Dengue breeding ground discovered in Udahamulla after public awareness programme

2013 Jul 04

A public awareness programme in line with Dengue Eradication Week took place in Colombo on Tuesday.
The event was held under the auspices of the Minister of Health Maithripala Sirisena.
Health officials, the mayor of Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte, teachers, parents and students participated in the programme held at the Sri Wijeyarama Maha Vidyalaya in Udahamulla.
Following the event, the group inspected the Udahamulla Depot premises, where it was discovered that the premises were conducive to mosquito breeding.

“When we inspected the area, we noticed a number of places conducive to Dengue breeding. Water does not recede in this depot. It is important for institutes to take measures to remove the garbage from the area. If public institutes continue not to clean up, there will be no point to our efforts, even though the people keep their houses clean," the minister explained.
