British tourist murder case transferred to Colombo

It is said that the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) informed the Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya today (28) that the case of the murder of British tourist Kuram Sheik was transferred to Colombo due to the suspects including Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman allegedly threatening witnesses.

The case, which was initially heard at the Tangalle Magistrate’s court, was taken up in Colombo today (28) after the Attorney General’s department requested the transfer on special grounds.

The said British Red Cross workers was shot dead inside the hotel at Tangalle , while his fiancé was brutally attacked and raped.

When the case was heard, the police informed the court that, even though the weapons and case materials have been sent to the state analyst, they have not received the reports thus far.

The 8 suspects which include the Chairman of the Tangalle Prageshiya Sabha Sampath Chandrapushpa Widanapathirana who were released on bail previously.
