Main problem in our district is retaining teachers - Navin Dissanayake

Minister of Education Bandula Gunawardene declared open a newly-constructed three storey building at the Sumana Maha Vidyalaya in Talawakelle.

Minister of State Management Reforms, Navin Dissanayake also attended the event. Minister Navin Dissanayake expressed these views at the event

"The main problem in our district is retaining teachers. Teachers who are posted to schools in rural districts, obtain transfers through politicians to other schools, specially schools in the Kandy district. This is a grave injustice because the Sinhala people in Nuwara Eliya live amidst great difficulties. l think if we fail to retain the number of teachers that are posted here, it is a massive shortcoming on the part of administrative officers and politicians.

Minister Bandula Gunawardene expressed this view

"Nearly 200,000 children in the arts stream compete to enter university to obtain an arts degree. However, the technology stream has commenced in 200 to 250 schools. There are students who think it is easy to compete with 200,000 students to enter university in 2016. Then there are others who think they should compete with 25,000 to enter university.
